It’s been a while since I’ve posted on my blog, mainly due to the lack of spare time, but I really needed to spill my guts over this.
Ever since webpages became indexed by search engines like Altavista, Excite, Lycos and Google there have been companies stating they know a lot about optimizing webpages so they get ranked higher in the various SERPS. This is a good thing, now it’s possible for everyone to get their websites in the indexes so more people get the chance to find them and read them.
The only thing that’s bothering me, is the more-or-less changed meaning of SEO. The term SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Which means: ‘Optimizing pages so search engines can properly index and rank pages’ duh!!! Lets state the obvious here… it’s called Search Engine optimization, so it should be optimized for search engines in general.
Now, in my opinion, most SEO companies only optimize for Google. I know Google is one of the most used, possibly the most used search engine nowadays, but it isn’t the only search engine on the internet. But why should we think of live search and the others, they’ll never bring the same amount of visitors as Google will.
In my opinion, SEO companies that focus purely on Google, would be better off by stating they are Google Optimizing (GO) instead of Search Engine Optimizing (SEO).
But still, i’m only my ranting my 2 cents here 🙂 And I do LOVE google, and honestly it’s my no.1 search engine.
